Dear friends of music,
On Sunday, June 17 2018, our big charity event took place in favor of South African children and adolescents from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. The aim was to raise money in order for the Plett Field Band to buy new instruments, so that the children can continue to enjoy making music in the future. For this purpose, children and adolescents, who are mostly piano students of my music studio, appeared in many different small performances and amazed the audience. Even professional musicians have agreed to participate with their appearance at the event and waived for this extra on their fee! These include the students Ryan Howland (violin) and Franziska Staubach (piano), the singer Sissi Qi Wang and the Canadian pianist and electoral Swiss Walter Prossnitz, who set the musical highlight of this event with his appearance in the evening.
We got to see many small concerts, lectures of poems in several languages and a musical (“The little girl with the matches” by Hans Christian Andersen), which received their speciality through the internationality of all participants. Represented were a.o. Students from Korea, Spain, Italy, China, Austria, Nepal, India, the USA, Russia and of course Germany. The youngest musicians were only 3 years old, who performed a very nice piece, called the “Musicbox”, in which the children in turn presented themselves with small pieces.
Our guests of honor were the mayor and town councilor of Bonn Reinhard Limbach and the consul for culture of the People’s Republic of China HE Wenbo, who both made wonderful speeches at the beginning of the event, which summed up the essence of music making: the bringing together of people from the most diverse nations and generations through the universal language of music. They were genuinely thrilled with the performances of our little musicians and were happy to talk with the guests!
Towards the end of the event, the performances of the “big” musicians took place: Walter Prossnitz on the piano and Ryan Howland on the violin played the “Sonata No. 1 for Violin and Piano in G major op. 7” by Johannes Brahms. Franziska Staubach played the “Sonata op. 109” by Ludwig van Beethoven and the “Ballade No. 2 in B minor” by Franz Liszt, which sent the entire audience into ecstasy.
Walter Prossnitz made the final with a solo performance on the piano. The “Sonata op 10 F major op.10 Nr.2” by Ludwig van Beethoven, two pieces (“Des pas sur la neige” and “Ce qu’a vu le vent d’ouest”) from the “Préludes, Livre I” and the well-known work “L’isle joyeuse” by Claude Debussy, own compositions as reflections on (parts of) Préludes by Frédéric Chopin and at last from Franz Liszt’s “Années de pèlerinage” the pieces “Les jeux d’eaux à la Villa d’Este “and” Vallée d’Obermann”. Unfortunately, this concert only took place in front of a very small audience, but what the listeners were allowed to experience was a top-class concert that seeks the same virtuosity and sonority among its peers!
I would like to thank everyone involved, especially the children, who made this event a success with so much effort and passion, and of course their parents, who gave them great support. Special thanks also go to Michelle Yen-Howland, Reinhard Limbach and HE Wenbo. Last but not least, I would like to thank the great audience, whose donation made this event a success not only as a concert but also as a charity event!

On June 17, 2018, the “Music Studio and Gallery: Gabriele Paqué” of Bonn organizes a charity event in the chamber music hall of the Bonn Beethovenhaus, to which we would like to cordially invite you.
This event is dedicated to the Field Band Foundation, which operates around the world and enables children and young people from socially disadvantaged communities to learn musical instruments. In South Africa, this project is co-financed by the Chamäleon-Foundation, from which the Plett Field Band was founded in Plettenberg Bay. Meanwhile, the children celebrate great success with public appearances in the form of concerts, parades or sporting events and the music has become a part of their lives.
Music is a universal language that is emotionally understandable across cultural and linguistic boundaries and across generations, something that allows us to express our inner world of feelings. Making music is source of the inner joy of life on which we can draw on at any time in bad or good times, bringing people together and showing the best in us.
The little and professional musicians, who will appear on this day, know this by heart and want to help with their commitment to the children in South Africa, so that they can continue to make music and even more children may get the opportunity to do so as well. This event is also supported by the Chinese school “Happy Center for Chinese Cultural Exchange” from Bonn, led by Tina Hengxin Cui.
As part of this event, we ask all visitors for donations that will benefit the Plett Field Band alone. Prominent guests are a.o. the mayor Reinhard Limbach and HE, Wenbo (Consul for Culture of the People’s Republic of China).
“Social Integration and Development through Dance and Music – In Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, socially disadvantaged children and adolescents have the opportunity to learn various instruments and perform as a major music group by joining the Plett Field Band. The children and teenagers practice their music with great enthusiasm and are not missing in any performance. Especially children from poorer families should gain the opportunity for personal development and skills for the future through this project. In addition to music lessons and regular performances, this includes workshops on the prevention of HIV and AIDS (some of the children are HIV-positive), job-search assistance, and programs to help children in need. The Field Band works throughout the year at the National and Regional South Africa Championships, where children will be presenting their progress with a bang. “

The events will feature students from my music studio as well as professional pianists. Together with Michelle Yen-Howland, who teaches piano in English and Chinese in my music studio, as well as with Franziska Staubach, who also teaches in German (and will play a concert as part of the event), we have prepared for you a wonderful program with our students (between the ages of 5 and 16), which includes many small concerts and a musical. Three students of Michelle Yen-Howland already are first prize winners of “Jugend musiziert” and “Vienna Grand Prize Virtuoso 2018” in their age group. Of course you will also be able to hear them in this event!
To crown it all, we were able to get the famous pianist Walter Prossnitz from Switzerland on board, who will donate his fee for this project so that the proceeds from the tickets (and donations for the program of our young students) will be donated to the Plett Field Band alone.
Being allowed to perform in the chamber music hall of the Beethovenhaus was a great wish for all of us and is due solely to the parents of our students, who were able to finance the rent for the premises with their donations in advance.

“Préludes” from two Epochs
Walter Prossnitz plays Preludes by Chopin and explains
how they served as an inspiration for his préludes
(composed 1996-2016).
Walter Prossnitz, born in Victoria, Canada, studied there and made his debut with Liszt’s A major Concerto at the age of 14. At 17, he won the Grand Prix for all instruments at the Canadian National Music Competition, later the 1st Prize in the Montreal Competition and made an extended tour to China at the age of 20.
He has been living in Switzerland for many years, from where he has performed mainly in Europe and North America. He played at Carnegie Hall in 1992 and 1994, was invited to record with the English Chamber Orchestra in London, toured with the Munich Chamber Symphony as a soloist on tours in Germany and Spain, and in Zurich with the Tonhalle and Opern Orchestras; Overall, he played over 40 different piano concertos. He also performed in piano recitals and as chamber music partner of Bettina Boller, Christina Daletska, Hansheinz Schneeberger and Pieter Wisperwey in Paris, Budapest, Munich, Nuremberg, Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, Venice, Pisa and many other cities. In 2016 he made his début at the Beethovenfest Bonn.
Along with his concerts, he enjoys giving masterclasses, especially in Switzerland, USA, and Canada. He taught three years at the Cadenza Summer School in London. Since 1988 he teaches at the Zurich Conservatory.
Walter Prossnitz is a versatile man – he is the inventor of board games and logic puzzles, now writes his first ebooks, and has rewritten several sonatas by Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt and Saint-Saens as concertos for solo instrument and orchestra.
