Dear music lovers,

For the opening of an exhibition by the Korean artist Hyeja Kim, it is a great pleasure for us to have her compatriot and pianist Séverine Kim (no relation) for this wonderful occasion:

Praised for her “sensitive and exuberant playing” (Rye News), Séverine Kim is an outstanding and passionate musician who performs all over the world.

She has performed in venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the White Rock Theatre in Hastings, the Salle Cortot in Paris, the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center in Salt Lake City and the Seoul Arts Center. She has performed as a soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Göttinger Sinfonie Orchester, the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim, the Philharmonisches Kammerorchester Wernigerode and the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra. Invitations to major festivals such as the Seoul Symphony Festival, the International Piano Festival Young Masters, the New Masters on Tour of the International Holland Music Sessions, the Silesian Beethoven Festival in Głogówek, the Mozartfest Würzburg, the Euregio Music Festival etc. regularly take her to international stages.

Her busy concert schedule is enriched by prizes in numerous international competitions, including the YPN International Piano Competition in Newcastle, the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in Salt Lake City, the Chopin Competition of the Choping Society Hanover, the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition, the International Theodor Leschetizky Piano Competition in Hamburg, the ZF Music Prize in Friedrichshafen, as well as the “Young Artist Award” at the International Music Festival Buxtehude and the Jury Prize of the Pianale Piano Festival.

She was recently awarded first prize and the audience prize at the James Mottram International Piano Competition in Manchester in December 2023.
In addition to her solo performances, she is active in various chamber music ensembles such as the piano duo Kim&Hanssen and the Jasper Trio.

She also performs regularly with artists such as Leonid Gorokhov, Mohamed Hiber, Alexander Hülshoff, Midori, the Eliot Quartet, Mark Schumann, Nabil Shehata and Milena and Roman Simovic.

In close collaboration with actors and speakers, she creates innovative concert formats combining music and language, such as the “Musical Reading” and is the founder and artistic director of the festivals “Celle Summer Concerts” and “Gifhorn-Wolfsburg Autumn Music Festival”.
Séverine Kim was supported as a scholarship holder by the Chopingesellschaft Hannover, Live Music Now Hannover and the Werner Richard – Dr Carl Dörken Foundation. She has been a scholarship holder of the German Music Competition Concert Fund and the German Foundation for Musical Life since 2024.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1994, after completing her junior studies at the Korean National Institute for the Gifted in Arts with Daejin Kim and Yoonju Oh, she moved to Bernd Goetzke at the Hanover University of Music in summer 2011, where she is currently enrolled on the concert exam programme.
She is also furthering her studies in the Master of Chamber Music programme with Markus Becker.

She has been a lecturer at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media since the summer semester of 2023.
