Dear music lovers,

We are delighted to welcome soprano Dorothea Jakob back to the Musikstudio, who last wowed us with her voice in the ‘La Fontana’ trio in 2022. Today she will be performing together with pianist Hiroko Matta-Klein, who also has an impressive career to her name. You can look forward to the exciting programme ‘Da unten im Tale’ with compositions by Maurice Ravel, Luciano Berio, Manuel de Falla, Sergei Prokofiev and Johannes Brahms!

Dorothea Jakob studied singing at the “Carl Maria von Weber” Academy of Music in Dresden with Ilse Hahn and at the same time began studying conducting with Hans-Christoph Rademann, which she continued at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Jos van Veldhoven and at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf with Anders Eby. A particular artistic focus of her work is the Lied, to which she has devoted herself intensively in courses with Olaf Bär, Ulrich Eisenlohr and Han Louis Meijer. She is also particularly fond of making music as part of an ensemble and works closely with the Nederlands Kamerkoor, the Huelgas Ensemble, Schola Heidelberg and the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart. She has already worked as a soloist with the Kammerphilharmonie Mannheim, the Karlsruhe Baroque Orchestra, the Orchestre d’Auvergne, the Asko Schönberg Ensemble Amsterdam and the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra. Her concert repertoire includes oratorios, cantatas and masses by Bach, Handel, Mozart and Haydn as well as romantic church music works by Brahms, Fauré, Mendelssohn and the St John Passion by Arvo Pärt. Dorothea is also the conductor of the Zweibrücken Chamber Choir.

Hiroko Matta-Klein comes from Miyazaki in Japan. She came into contact with music at an early age through her mother’s work as a piano teacher, and her interest in composition resulted in youth and young talent awards for her works.
After studying music at Miyazaki University, she continued her musical training with Prof Dina Yoffe at the Anton Rubinstein Academy in Düsseldorf. During her studies at the academy and numerous performances in Germany and Europe, she not only perfected her playing as a solo pianist, but also discovered her enthusiasm for chamber music. After graduating from the Academy, Hiroko studied piano and chamber music under the guidance of Prof Yu Kakuno, Prof Kiyoshi Okayama and Prof Katsuya Matsubara at the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music, where she received her Master’s degree in 2011. Hiroko is a prizewinner of several competitions, such as the JPTA competition in Japan and the international music competition ‘Pietro Argento’ in Italy. She is also an official accompanist at various international masterclasses and music festivals. Hiroko has lived in Germany since 2013, where she works as a freelance pianist and teaches at the Königswinter Music School.
